Even though I was a believer throughout grade school, I still resented the mandatory church attendance.
Mon - Fri: Get up and make breakfast, but don't eat it. You have to fast before receiving Holy Communion. Breakfast was eaten at your school desk. Cold toast isn't that bad.
Sat: Go to confession. Yeah, stand in line. It was drummed into our heads that we were all sinners. It didn't matter that you didn't steal that candy bar. Just thinking about it broke one of the Big Ten.
Sun: Dress your best. You're going to be dining on Jesus with all the adults.
Mon: It all starts 'round again.

(34,991 posts)I hated that CCD classes were held at 8:00 every Saturday morning ..... then church was Sunday morning ..... I never got to sleep late.
And I had the same feeling about Confession as you.

(4,516 posts)My stomach hurt all morning. Only good kids went to communion. Bad kids who touched themselves improperly had to go to confession first.

But that was a good thing. Because of the mandatory fasting before communion, we got Krispey Kreme donuts and milk when we fitnesses to school.
