Related: About this forumEx-Pope Benedict Blames LGBTQ Acceptance on "Spiritual Power of the Antichrist"
One hundred years ago, everybody would have considered it to be absurd to speak of a homosexual marriage. Today one is being excommunicated by society if one opposes it Modern society is in the middle of formulating an anti-Christian creed, and if one opposes it, one is being punished by society with excommunication. The fear of this spiritual power of the Anti-Christ is then only more than natural.
Benedict appears to confuse social excommunication with people who want nothing to do with you anymore. Imagine becoming persona non grata for opposing the marriages in some cases, even the existence of people youve never met.
He apparently sees no contradiction in accusing equal rights proponents of social excommunication on behalf of the Church that literally invented excommunication as a punishment. That word, excommunication, would not exist without the Catholic Church.

(15,719 posts)But you're A OK with pedophile priests being shunted from one parish to another preying (not praying) on children.
Love is love. But what those Catholic priests did/have done isn't love.

(6,448 posts)I equate it to high school math, where a negative times a positive is still negative.
And with all that's been going on for the last 40 years, why is this at the top of Benedict's plate? We still have wars, social injustice, famine, and many more worldwide issues--even before COVID.
Sorry, but he's a senile bigot who wants more children born so his lackeys can get their rocks off.

(17,034 posts)He can cover up for child rapists but he wants to damn people in healthy adult relationships. Hypocrisy at its best. It's fine to fuck children and hide it, the real sin is to fall in love with someone of the same sex and announce it to the world. It's the lack of guilt or shame that the Catholic church can't abide.
