From Friendly Atheist blog:

Writing for the Christian Post, Jason Jimenez wants to know why the media (read: left-wing media) isnt attacking President Joe Biden for his faith the way it did Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
...
It didnt matter the media outlet. They all loved reporting on how Biden was a deeply devout Catholic and that his faith is a huge factor in shaping his politics. Even Speaker Pelosi publicly praises Bidens faith and willingly admits that his Catholic faith has shaped his career and public policies. An article in The New York Times stated, President Biden, perhaps the most religiously observant commander in chief in half a century, speaks of how his Catholic faith grounds his life and his policies.
Interesting, isnt it? How the media and every single big-time progressive politician have no problem mixing Bidens faith with politics. But suppose you are a Christian who is pro-life and not in favor of the Supreme Court legalizing same-sex marriage. In that case, the response you get from the Left is the complete opposite. How was Judge Amy Coney Barrett (also a deeply devout Catholic) treated during the Senate confirmation hearings? Senator Dianne Feinstein and her colleagues didnt praise Judge Barrett for her faith. Instead, Senator Feinstein expressed her concern about how Judge Barretts faith might influence her decisions by stating, The dogma lives loudly within you, and thats of concern. But if the Left is so concerned about a persons faith interfering with their public service, why isnt the Left disparaging Biden from talking about how his faith shapes his public policies?
The simple answer is that Biden isnt trying to force his religious views on everyone else, and when he talks about his faith, its not as a weapon. His faith also isnt for show, like it is for many elected Republicans, who constantly prove themselves to be hypocrites. Nor is Bidens faith used as a shield to prevent him from answering legitimate questions about his views (like Barrett).

(5,125 posts)Asking the question, "As a Catholic with VERY public views on ..... how will you be able to remain impartial?" IS VALID.
AND.... HONESTLY there was a lot of focus on JOE's previous views on "busing" as being "potentially racist" even though he wanted children of color to be able to LIVE in the neighborhoods with better schools, not just get bused to them.
AS a Catholic who wants to see EVERY CHILD given a decent education and a safe living environment and didn't think at the time that busing would be accepted by standard middle class and above parents, he got roasted. By the right AND left.
HIS response was telling, he made an effort to SHOW how committed he is to multiracial success by appointing the MOST DIVERSE group in his administration anyone has ever seen.
Barrett and other Republican appointees to Supreme Court didn't rubber stamp Donald through to WIN in 2020. So far, that is in their favor as being impartial to a point.
The difference IS when the left has concerns we speak up.... AND let people answer the question instead of just crucifying them without allowing any reply to be heard.

(1,654 posts)His religion helps make him a moral person, not moralistic. His faith is his own business and he respects others enough that he doesn't force it on us. I despise Christian Dominionists like Mike Pompeo who are always talking about their savior this and savior that when he was supposed to be representing all the people of this country. Biden's faith has been a comfort to him in his troubles. Good for him. Personally when people start talking about their god, etc. I make sure my wallet is safe.

(1,112 posts)It is only when faith of those in power is being used to oppress dissidents that I have a problem. I am apparently a radical leftist. So there's the answer.
