How much of the Old Testament is true? Is the Bible historical? And if not, where did the Jewish people come from and how did Judaism originate? In this interview, Dr. Andrew Henry, a religious studies expert from the Religion for Breakfast channel, discusses the Israeli ethnogenesis, the archaeology of the Levant, and how Judaism emerged in Canaan. Did the Exodus happen? Did Joshua invade Canaan? Was there a grand united kingdom of Israel under King David? And if not, then what's the source, origin, and reason for these Old Testament stories?

1. I found a FASCINATING author, Ralph Ellis. I think you'd like his books. He takes what's in the

Writings and really examines it, making one wonder how so much wasn't probed better before. I think my favorite was the book about Moses and what was probably really going on.

2. I enjoy bible history as well.

There are a number of lecture series by true historians, and they explain how they analyze the texts to get clues about who wrote it, what they were trying to achieve, when it was written, etc.

I'm now in the middle of a series about the dead sea scrolls. They are true time capsules, undisturbed in some cases 2000 years.

There was a less-well-known find of gnostic writings around the same time that is also interesting, as it answered many questions about the gnostic movement.
