Centuries Ago, a Cat Walked Across This Medieval Manuscript Read more: http://blogs.smithsonianmag.
While pawing through a stack of medieval manuscripts from Dubrovnik, Croatia, University of Sarajevo doctoral student Emir O. Filipović stumbled upon a familiar set of splotches marring the centuries-old pages. Years ago, a mischievous kitty had left her ink-covered prints on the book. Filipović explains the finding:
My story line follows a simple path: I was doing some research in the Dubrovnik State Archives for my PhD, I came across some pages which were stained with cat paw prints, I took a few photos of this (as I do whenever I notice something interesting or unusual on any old book Im reading), and carried on with my work not paying too much attention to something which at that time could essentially be only a distraction.

(17,203 posts)Roman-era Ft. Vancouver brick has paw prints
VANCOUVER - A brick unearthed decades ago at Fort Vancouver is back in the spotlight.
The brick was first discovered buried in the ground on the site around 1950, but a recent analysis of its make-up now shows the brick dates back some 2,000 years, all the way back to the Roman Empire.
One of the most interesting aspects of the brick is what was likely not supposed to be on it.
If you look closely at one of its corners youll see two tiny paw prints. Archaeologists suspect its the work of an ancient Roman kitty cat.

(2,289 posts)I once had a squirrel mess up some field notes by deciding that my little orange field book looked like a good place to go to the bathroom.
I had to remove the whole page but it still left stains on some of the other pages.
I was not a happy wolf that afternoon
