Hurricane Sandy

I just lost my side porch roof, walls, and DirecTV dish. I had to call the fire department to knock the walls down because they were just hanging there.

My neighbor's tree across the street blew down, and our lights are flickering.

It's going to be a long night. Stay safe.

Hang in there we are all thinking about you and I am praying for President Obama to bring some calm to the storm and keep you all safe.

hang in there. stay online while you can, so we can stay with you. I'm 400 miles N/NE of NYC and the wind has been howling up here starting since about 3pm. All day I kept hearing a strange popping sound, like somebody hitting a baseball. It was a poplar tree that is splitting in half *vertically* from the top down. Each pop breaks it further. It'll be gone by morning I'm sure. And the big maple behind my house that Irene took a huge branch off...it's smaller branches started breaking off this evening. And the top half of big poplar broken almost off during Irene has been hanging since then...until this evening.

My point being, I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like down where you are near ground zero...

Stay safe.

Two hours after my original post, our power went off and has been off until now. It's 62 degrees in my house, but the furnace is now running.

My sister lives in a hi-rise apartment a few miles away, and the emergency management people asked them if they wanted to evacuate because the power would be off for SEVEN DAYS. I just called her and told her she could come to my house.

The insurance adjuster is supposed to come at 8:30 tomorrow, if the streets are passable. My son took a drive around our area this morning and saw several closed streets because of downed trees. There are many local businesses that are closed, including the grocery store where I shop a mile from my house.

This has really opened my eyes about how I need to be better prepared this winter with an alternate source of heat, either propane heater or electric generator.

One good lesson learned from DU, I made coffee this morning with a buddy burner!

I hope you all are safe and warm or soon will be!

The smiles are currently missing. Group hug!

What part of the state are you in?

I'm so sorry Sandy has hit you so hard. It's a mess in so many places.

Stay safe...and please check in and let us know how you and yours are doing, as best you can.

We were without power in 100 degree weather for ten days once--just before the wedding of a daughter. Just saying, I completely empathize......................

I'm very happy that everyone is safe and sound on your end, (albeit extremely inconvenienced and exposed).
