I could use some suggestions about focusing....and good energy.

Due to health issues and the medications that I take to manage them, I am really scattered in my waking hours, unable to focus my intent, and my energy is very low.
I am sure the problem has a lot to do with the pain pill that I am taking. I'm not depressed, which is a listed side effect, but there is an associated listless quality that is definitely present. It's weird because everything is normal during my dreams. They are intricate, and energized and I am my normal self, but it all disappears when I wake. I may have to try other medications, but it took us a long time to find one that helped manage the pain, so I am reluctant to start over if I don't have to... I'm doing what I can with nutrition, juicing, and tart cherry to reduce pain and strengthen my body, but my normal energy and meditation tools aren't working because of my lack of focus.
So, if you have any suggestions, or energy you can send my way, I would appreciate it very much. I've never been a person who gets bored so I don't know if that's what this feeling is, but this listless marking time is getting old.

(12,263 posts)I wish I had a good suggestion for you. The thing that cheers me up and helps me focus the most is to perform a good deed for someone else. When I get wrapped up in the execution of it, my energy always surges. Feel better!
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)This is a very rare problem for me...
I am usually pretty well "plugged in" I know it's the medicine causing it. I can't even get back to my writing with any concentration, and that is normally as easy as breathing for me. Verrah frustrating!

(14,881 posts)Sometimes it's hard to just, plain let go and rest. Sometimes it helps me to rest by getting offline (which is really bad for true rest) and stop trying to do anything. It's ok to do nothing -- not even meditate -- and just plain rest, with no expectations. At most, just put on some music, lie back and allow yourself to do nothing. Or pick out an easy read, such as a funny book or romance or anything you enjoy reading on a vacation, again with no expectations, and just lie down and go through the motions of reading. Or rent a relaxing movie.
Just a thought. It's probably what I need right, lol...

Just about the time I get a little ambition, it's time for another pain pill. If I skip the pill to stay motivated, I start a big ugly pain loop and it's hard to get it back under control. I'd love to get at the source for the pain, but we haven't figured it out yet.
Thankie for the suggestion though! ♥ I am betting it would be spot on for a big part of ASAH posters. You are a busy bunch!

(18,928 posts)Your post is very clear. The lack of focus isn't reflected at all in your typed 'speech'. But, I do hope you feel better soon.
When I feel that way it's a signal for me to take my vitamin D3 and Atomidine. Do you get out in the sunshine?
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)I actually do sit in my entryway with the door open when the sun is on that side of the house if I am up. And I take supplemental D. I had a bad deficiency a few years ago, so I take 2000+ daily now. I did a little reading on Atomidine. I'll look into that some more and talk to my doc about it. She is an osteopath, and very receptive to nontraditional solutions in addition to regular treatment. I do have thyroid issues so I can see the benefit of Atomidine for my situation. All my numbers have been fine for a while with my current treatment, but you never know when something can be improved upon.
Thanks very much! ♥
Editing to say thanks for letting me know my post was clear. It takes quite a while to get them written at times...

(14,881 posts)Windows don't work. UV light doesn't pass through glass, so we can't synthesize D by sitting in front of windows (unless they're made of plastic).
Also, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, the sun is too low in the sky at this time of year for UV light to pass through the ozone layer (unless maybe you're under a hole in the ozone!).
So glass windows, northern exposure means inadequate D without oral supplementation!
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)The glass reconnects me with nature, and my entryway has the direct access without having to hike up and down the neighborhood hills with coyote and bears for company. It wouldn't have bothered me before,we used to hike the smokys all the time, but I am slow enough now that I am cautious.

(10,170 posts)I'm blood type O and when I feel scattered, I usually need some bladderwrack, which is a type of kelp. Works like a charm for me.
I agree with the previous poster about letting yourself get enough sleep. Healing and sleep are good together.
I find the simple basics in life are the first questions I need to answer.
Here is my list:
1) Am I spending some time breathing deeply. Fully inhale to a count of 8 hold for a bit full, fully empty to a count of 8. hold for a bit empty. (How one breathes is how one's emotions are. Change your breath; change how you feel.)
2) Am I getting enough water? (That means at least half my body weight in oz- 100 lbs = 50 oz.)
3) Am I eating well? I'm sure all your food is full of love!
4)Am I getting enough exercise? Just a daily stroll can make a huge difference. No need to overdo. Good to take in some green prana from being out in nature to refresh your soul.
5) Am I getting enough sleep, rest and refreshment? I should usually ask this one sooner.
If I have all these in order, it solves many problems. The next level is specific nutrients, bodywork and my pleasure hobbies, like reading. My personal world does not work without books for some astrological Piscean reason.
PM me if you need to chat more or any of this seems useful in greater detail.
xoxo,
Melissa
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)I have shellfish sensitivity and I know there is some risk with kelp, but I'll ask my doctor if it is something I can try! I did blood type and nutrition research several years ago. It's fascinating reading.
My old standby for battery recharging used to be going out for walks, but we have both black bear and coyote in the neighborhood lately, so I don't go out often. There is a spot nearby where three river forks converge that is great for me, but we haven't been to the national park in a long time. I don't usually go when the leaves drop because I have oak mold allergies, so we go late winter after everything has frozen or early spring I'm sort of a mess. I do what I can indoors for exercise, but with the joint pain it's hard to do much. I usually walk loops through the rooms downstairs.
Deep breathing and meditation used to be a big part of my life and I have done it for years, but this is one of the areas where it is difficult to focus now. I am perpetually tired from the medication and I find that if I quiet my mind, I get really sleepy. I'm sure that is from the narcotic component.
My main beverage is water and I drink quite a lot of it daily. Mostly plain, then with a little tart cherry or apple cider vinegar. Other than that, I drink hot tea occasionally or something caffeinated when I am really tired. I do sleep a lot. More than I would like to.
Thanks for the kelp info and your post. ♥ It's much appreciated.

(18,928 posts)avoid gluten? Or have you been tested for that? The only way I know of is through diet restriction.
Also, not sure what you found about Atomidine. It's a Cayce remedy. I've been taking it for some time and have worked out my schedule. I do believe it's best to allow intervals between usage.

(31,170 posts)I don't eat a lot of processed foods and bread anymore, but I haven't noticed any big change when I have tried restricting gluten in the past. My digestive issues seem to be less troublesome if I have tortillas in my diet on a regular basis.
Thanks for the links! I'll check them out.
I read earlier that it was Cayce related, and bookmarked a page at amazon with various products to look at, but I hadn't dug any deeper yet tonight.
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts).. it is good you are working with a doctor. She is in the best place to help you with this. And I'm not making presumptions; but you might also check in with your Intuition to determine if there are any emotional issues to work through. Something you may have been putting off. If that doesn't match your vibe, just consider I posted it for myself
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)so I don't think that I am repressing anything, but they aren't readily solvable issues and they DO add stress from time to time. I need to change my living environment too, but I am not in a position to do it just yet. I know it all contributes to the dis-ease I am dealing with, aside from the surgical issues etc, but maybe they are bothering me more than I realize...Thanks for giving me something to think about! ♥
Tumbulu
(6,453 posts)and second the kelp suggestion.
But what helps me develop focus when I find myself in this state is using my hands to make something.
Don't know if you enjoy knitting or kneading bread dough or drawing or making paper cutouts, spinning yarn, painting pottery, making lace.....
I never could play an instrument, but that might work as well.
Grooming animals......hands, body movement that is not strenuous, but is repetitive and has some sensuous quality that is thrilling in some way ( gorgeous color to the yarn, soft soft fluffy alpaca or baby angora goat...)
Can you treat yourself to working on something really special, even if whatever you make has no value to you or anyone else. Just the joy of doing something soothing and repetitive with your hands.....
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)I like the idea of working with cold metal needles and some pretty yarn or embroidery thread. My nephew and his wife are about to have a child, so I may make something for them! I used to make embroidered block baby quilts, but I haven't made them in a long time. I'm not sure how successful needle working would be with three cats in the family, but I doubt it would be dull.
Thank you! ♥

Not into homeopathy? Try Celebration's vids on YouTube. You can find them by Googling "MeditationSlideshow" "You Tube" and "Sun Salute." I recommend the Sun Salute one, Chakra Balance one, and Eyes/Info processing one.
Good stuff.

I've never tried the Bach essences. I'll look for them online!
And I'm going to check youtube after I finish posting, the vids sound like a great idea. Thank you for taking the time to post this info for me.

Editing to say there was a remarkable difference by the time I got through the second video. I started with the Chakra Balancing vid and went to the Sun Salutation next. By the second position in the Sun Salute there was change. I haven't looked at the others yet, but I plan to. Thanks so much for the suggestion. ♥

(15,812 posts)Honestly, Lucinda, though the medicine is helping with the pain, it sounds like it is weakening your auric fields. You can most likely rid yourself of that energetic weakening, though, with EFT (emotional freedom technique).
You need to first formulate an EFT type affirmation, something like,
Even though I am taking (name the medication), I still wholely and completely love myself, and accept myself.
or,
Even though I am in pain (name location), and taking (name the medication) I completely love and accept myself, and the medication is working in my best interest to control the pain.
or,
make up your own similar affirmation.
Then, while you are saying these affirmations, actually hold the medication in your hand, so that it is in your energy field.
You can do the EFT tapping, or you can watch a video I put up on YouTube. Just watching it while doing that should clear the negative energetic effect (on your auric fields) of the medicine. In any case you need to do this several times in the first 24 hours, and every day, at different times of the day for the next week. After that the negative energetic effect of the medicine should stop, and the chemical effect will be what is left. Let us know if this works.
