and i don't know where he heard it, the mayans did not account for leap year, and the end of the world according to their calendar, had they done so, has already passed. so, we may be safe

but there won't be an end of the world. and, as iconic as Dick Clark is, his passing has no relation to the end of the world. however, since i do love me some irony, i'd be deliciously amused if i was proved wrong. granted i'd be amused ever so briefly, but it's best to go out with a bang and a hearty laugh.

(edit: IIRC, Mayan calendar has something like a leap month. but that's also regularly taken into account in calculations. the trouble comes about comparing two different calendars.)
