Sheina Gutnick, daughter of Bondi Beach terror victim Reuven Morrison, opened public hearings at Australia’s Royal Commission into Antisemitism with a personal account of abuse and fear since the massacre. She described being harassed in public, receiving online hate, and feeling unsafe in parts of Sydney. The inquiry, which follows one of Australia’s worst mass shootings, has issued interim recommendations and will deliver its final report in December.


Gutnick’s account connected personal trauma to a broader trend of rising antisemitism in Australia since October 2023, which counsel assisting described as ‘louder and more emboldened than ever’.
