Scalise is back {groan}

Louisiana Republican House member Steve Scalise showed up at the Capitol today for the first time since being shot in June. He was the most seriously-wounded person in the shooting.

I caught the first few minutes of Scalise's words on the House floor. The mood was just ecstatic. He thanked the Park Service police for saving his life and another guy who put a tourniquet on him to stop him from bleeding too much. I wasn't listening too intently, but I didn't hear him thank the hospital staff or doctors for saving his life. I hope I'm wrong.

But he turned to God pretty quick. It's all about God. And the awesome power of prayer. And everybody all over the country that was praying for him, and even strangers took the time to pray for him. It turned my stomach and I left the room to do something else, so I didn't hear everything he said. When I came back to the room, he was still speaking, so I turned it up and he's going on again about the power of prayer.

Before he was shot, Scalise had one of the more hard-core conservative voting records in Congress. The League of Conservation Voters gives Scalise a 3% 2016 Voting Score and a 4% Lifetime Score. "Progressive Punch" a lib/progressive group, gave Scalise a Lifetime Score of under 2%. Most Dems get rated in the 90% range. Real compassionate asshole this guy is.

I wonder if Steve's experience will soften his good Christian heart a bit towards comforting the afflicted? I kinda doubt it. You don't have to necessarily afflict the comfortable to adequately fund social programs, but these Christians just seem so cold-hearted.

Scalise wears the label Christian like many wear a watch, he still hates poor people, he still loves him some gun money from the NRA, and he's not going to change!!!

I expect he's going to become an even bigger douche then he was before he was shot!!

are some of the biggest cold hearted hypocrites on the planet.

I am glad I responded to Ron Reagan's Freedom From Religion in Politics ads on MSNBC. I donated and requested that it be used for more ads. Ron is quite amusing and light hearted. It is a welcomed difference from most of the Christian BS (guilt, sympathy, etc) when they speak to gain funds.

I hope others saw it and did likewise. When I attended the FFRF convention a couple of weeks ago, they announced that they were placing a large ad buy (of Reagan's spot) on Rachel Maddow, which elicited a cheer from the crowd. After the first few ran, I heard from several friends who told me they saw it. You're the third person who said they donated because of it.

9. I have a theory on these 'holier than anything' politicians

I have come to the conclusion that in their minds they know and understand there is no god, no heaven, no hell. The reason i say this is simply because of their behavior.
If they were true Christians or for that matter if they were true anythings, they would not be so ambitious for worldly goods and power. But they understand that they get one shot and they are going to accrue the nicest ride they can.

At the same time they have learned that religion has been and is perhaps the greatest control mechanism ever conceived. By joining in with those in the power structure they work to keep the believers believing by acting like they too are one of them.

So while doing everything that religions condemn, they at the same time pretend to toe the line of obedience to some god.
Thereby fooling the masses who have learned to put great stock in the appearance of religiosity believing that a (non-existent) god would not bless such a person unless he (or she) was holy.

They play the game so well and so constantly that the chances of actually revealing themselves is slim.

Joel Osteen got revealed accidentally by Harvey when he refused shelter in times of great necessity. But don't worry - he'll lie his way out of it and be fleecing the sheep as always.

Hope I made sense. Maybe my argument doesn't make sense. And there will never be any way to find out if I am right or wrong

In short here is the nut of it - if these people really believed in what they claim to believe and there would be some judgment coming they would not act the way they do.

I think those thoughts have occurred to many people, myself included.

It doesn't take a whole lot of brain power to realize that religion is a bunch of bunk, and many of these people are pretty highly educated. It also doesn't take a genius to see that religion holds quite a sway over a large swath of people.

It's a pretty cynical attitude, but it explains a lot.

so many are taken in by their veneer of religiosity. You just know that they can see how well it sells so they just up their game and sell it all the more.

Speaking of Moore - Roy Moore is a real example of this cynicism.
