Atheist gets kicked off Egyptian TV talk show....

Not suere if this was posted here before (I looked back 2 pages and didn't see it)

This aired on February 11 in Egypt. The text accompanying the vid is as follows;

Mohammad Hashem, an atheist, was invited to the Alhadath Alyoum TV studio to participate in a debate with former Deputy Sheikh of Al-Azhar Mahmoud Ashour. However, his statement that there is no scientific evidence for the existence of God and his attempt to talk about the Big Bang theory met with a barrage of insults from Sheikh Ashour and from TV host Mahmoud Abd Al-Halim, with Sheikh Ashour recommending psychiatric treatment and Abd Al-Halim refusing to allow him to remain on the show. The TV host, apologizing to his viewers for subjecting them to "inappropriate" and "destructive ideas," advised Hashem "to leave the studio and go straight to a psychiatric hospital." The show aired on February 11.

You have to give credit to the balls on the Atheist, as he is risking his life in the Arab world by coming out so publicly. Here's hoping he stays safe and unharmed.

There are a bunch of videos on YouTube of various individuals challenging the current state of Islam on Arabic TV, some of them really compelling. There are most certainly voices of reason critical of the present state of affairs in the Islamic world.

I have watched quite a few and it gives me hope that the religion has at least SOME voices that want to move Islam into the modern world, instead of languishing in the 14th century where much of it seems to reside. Unfortunately, there are still too many types like that Mahmoud asshole who think that if you hold a different view, you are mentally deranged.

Of course, the very same can be said of many Christians in this country.
