Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumThis I Believe There Is No God PENN JILLETTE
From NPR.
I believe that there is no God. I'm beyond atheism. Atheism is not believing in God. Not believing in God is easy you can't prove a negative, so there's no work to do. You can't prove that there isn't an elephant inside the trunk of my car. You sure? How about now? Maybe he was just hiding before. Check again. Did I mention that my personal heartfelt definition of the word "elephant" includes mystery, order, goodness, love and a spare tire?

(31,940 posts)It's arguable (and has already been posted in this very forum) that to say "I believe there is no God" or "I am a non-believer" is to accept that a "god" or "religious belief" qualifies as an alternative or default position.

My mind wanders to all the wasted efforts and wasted lives in an attempt to "please" god. Monumental waste.

The ability to prove something to someone depends upon that person's standard of proof, and there are some to whom you can't prove water is wet.
But if I encounter someone who can prove to me, to their own satisfaction, that Godzilla doesn't exist, then I'll make good on my promise. Otherwise I'll stick with maintaining that there's no reason to believe that God exists (or that gods exist), just like there's no reason to believe Godzilla exists.

(33 posts)Penn Jillette is a genius - the James Randi of our generation. His observations are always dead-on.
