Machiavelli and Darwin always apply.

The malevolent lead the delusional down the primrose path towards their "final reward".

Darwin has it in hand...

Then running off with tens of millions of dollars of his parishioners' savings. He would give the new investor's money to the old investor's so they thought they were making money on their investment. A ponzi scheme. Until the 2008 crash hit.....

No more new investors and no more profits for older investors.

Anyway, he ran off with all the money and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Never trust religious people they think a magical god is on their side and may do anything.

It was on the series The Con narrated by Whoopi Goldberg. They could probably do a whole series just on religious scams.

...undying love of the hardcore believers, the unshakable faith of the fools and the dreamers, their "holy devotion" to "sins of the ages"...

Long and the short of the con is...

Machiavelli leads the Darwin Award winners down the proverbial Primrose Path.

Same as it ever was, the con man will never give a sucker an even break.
