Public schools want transparency in voucher-like scholarships

Public education leaders want South Dakota's legislators to overturn a voucher-like scholarship that diverts tax dollars to private schools.

A full repeal isn't likely, said Wade Pogany, executive director of the Associated School Boards of South Dakota (ASBSD).

But educators at the very least want to see more transparency built into the so-called "tax-credit scholarship," which lets insurance companies give money in return for sizable tax credits.

Sioux Falls school board members on Thursday voted to support ASBSD's resolution to oppose the law while continuing to fight for transparency.
