Seven Legislative races eligible for recounts, could change number of Ds and Rs in Pierre

The blue wave in Tuesday's election never materialized in South Dakota as the balance of power between Democrats and Republicans in Pierre will be virtually unchanged in 2019.

Republicans gained one spot in the Senate thanks to the GOP's candidate in Sen. Billie Sutton's district beating the Democrat, giving them a 30-5 edge. And in the House, Democrats picked up a spot, giving the party 11 of the 70 seats in that chamber.

But that's if the results in a handful of tight legislative districts races hold.

According to the Secretary of State election records, as many as seven legislative district candidates across South Dakota could ask their county auditors to take another look at the ballots by petitioning for a recount.
