2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWas blaming Russia for everything a bad move?
Romney is the one who said they were our#1 enemy and Obama downplayed that idea saying the 80s are calling and they want there foreign policy back. Romney lost.
Now we seem to be blaming Russia for everything. I'm not sure this is a good strategy. Have things really changed this drastically in 4 yrs? Why the flip flop?
I say let's stop blaming everyone else for our problems and start finding solutions that meet the needs of our voters!

I say let's put the blame right where it belongs--on Vladimir and the racists he incites.

People with a brain should known that foreign entities are going to attempt to hack our government and political parties.
To believe that America wouldn't do the same thing is ignorant at best and intellectually dishonest at worst.
The DNC should have taken cyber security seriously. They didn't, and they payed the price for it. Embarrassing emails were leaked and the DNC Char had to be removed because of it.

(1,901 posts)of Bernie, the propaganda both online, on TV etc. and the actual intrusions is somehow not Russian in nature, despite 17 intelligence agencies saying so, is a pretty bad move. Denying reality usually is. I say let's stop playing blame games, and let's start addressing the foreign intrusions and other nonsense that infected this election cycle, that's how you meet the needs of voters.

(1,290 posts)It's harder to call out the Conspiracy Theorist-In-Chief (Trump's never met a hoax he didn't like) when we have people like Kurt Eichenwald beating the drum for their theories on our side. I'm not saying Russia didn't play a role, but many liberals went mad and grasped at straws (Eichenwald getting a reporter fired was the line for me) that made us look a bit kooky.
Also some people right out called the Russians communist like it was 1955. This is dumb and nonsensical considering Putin's actual government is right-wing. We can't say obviously false things and expect people to believe us.

(325 posts)Though I'm not sure how to do it better, personally. However since the only line on wikileaks was "these were Russian hacks" it only fueled the outrage. It left no message out there and made it look like the campaign was just trying to run out the clock rather than address it at all, and just hope it went away. However, I know to many the silence on the content was deafening.

Romney called it. He was ridiculed for it and in his second term Obama had to deal with russia in the Ukraine and Syria not to mention dealing with their influence in Asia.
Now the election. Romney called it and we mocked him and as punishment we get trump.
Maybe we will be smarter next time.
