https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/the-white-house-is-scrambling-for-a-way-to-punish-russian-hackers-via-sanctions/2016/12/27/0eee2fdc-c58f-11e6-85b5-76616a33048d_story.htmlThough Russian government hackers are believed to have penetrated at least one state voter-registration database, they did not tamper with the data, officials said.
Why is this important even after the first WAPO story that broke along these lines mentioned Obama wanting to protect state level voting resources?
Because the FUD and M$M (high paid FUD) have left this part of the Russia hack out of their narrative and focused MAINLY on the DNC hacks by Russia. There has been no (or few) mention of the state level voting machines being associated with the Russian hacks at all past Obama wanting to protect those resources until now ...
2 Things a person COULD believe after hearing this news
1. That the Russians hacked one of the state registrations, looked at the data and said "... well, we'll just leave all this election turning stuff alone... "
2. That there was ONLY one state level electronic voting resources that were open to hacking in some way.
IMHO, the two aforementioned beliefs would be Trump Voter thinking and improbable...
What's more probable is Russia fucked with the state level electronic voting resources TOO and adds to the conclusion that this election was far from a free and fair election that should not be ALLOWED to be certified on the 6th of Jan and recorded on Jan 19th
Your take?

Update on pre-vote warnings of state level tampering .... Obama DID blow the whites AND so did DHS !!!!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=2669405
2 things from the stories linked in this thread reply
1. Obama admin never waited for Turtle McFuckLips to warn the states, DHS warned them themselves
2. There were suspicions that voter registration tampering would have a negative effect on election

California's regulations for the counties are published online and actually pretty good. They incorporate both physical and cyber security, including point-to-point connections only, no Internet.

(61 posts)Republicans had the opportunity to put country before party this election cycle and tell the leaders of the unfree world to piss off. Instead of doing this, they proved themselves beyond a shadow of a doubt to be undemocratic, unamerican, spineless, and shamelessly treacherous false patriots. No better than Third World tyrants.
Why would they start caring about democracy now? All they care about is power. And they can't keep that by letting the will of the people rule. That would put them in the minority.

(6,236 posts)I know Pennsylvania has had a Democratic governor and Secretary of State for two years now but it's my understanding that they have electronic machines and no paper trail. Whats up with that? This seems like an obvious place to start. Perhaps if they had done something before the election we would not now be facing the horror of a Trump presidency.

(8,008 posts)as we observed in Michigan this year.
I have been a Michigan precinct captain several times. We have paper ballots that feed into scanning machines. But as we observed in Detroit this year... if the total number of votes don't match the number of paper ballots the recount is disallowed (??) Only anti-democratic Republican irrationals could pass such a law but in Michigan they have succeeded in doing just that.

If Democrats just report this and do nothing for 2 years and allow this shit again I quit!
The Republicans took over 1,000 seats in the last 8 years??? That is by design. That is by surreptitious, well executed design, and of course it involved thievery.

who buys that crap? w/the voter-registration d-base then "they" could target projects
like cross check in order to get the outcome that they wanted.
This was a coup and the people behind it are guilty of treason.

(5,276 posts)There are easy ways toward foolproof easy registration and voting. Paper ballots. Monitored custody and counting by neutral foreigners, maybe Switzerland. Counting videotaped.
Why has there been no push from the continually swindled democrats?
Our hodge podge myriad procedure hackable machines not to mention registration made harder than it should be.....why?
It is so frustrating.

(40,416 posts)I served as an county Democratic Party officer and we regularly had access to the voter registration data base, as did our GOP opponents. They are fucking public records so anybody can access them, if they pay the very nominal fee, easily affordable by even small county party organizations. Ours was the most populous county in the state, so the data base was easily obtained.
That's how we organized our walking lists, and our GOTV program.
Voter registration lists are easily obtained. Anybody claiming otherwise is misinformed.

I can see that
Either way, this is like talking about how bad the crime is vs the crime being committed enough means a do over period.
I don't believe for a second the Russians went into the voter registration of just one state, looked around and said ... well fuck all this Benedict Donald election turning information shit, let someone else have it... not for one second.

(40,416 posts)For one, here in Michigan, where I now live, all voting is via paper ballot, the so-called secure voting method. (Hint: it really is the most secure.) But that did not stop the screeching that the outcome here was somehow hacked, or something.
Why is it that whenever our candidate loses, the election must be hacked, or rigged? That sounds an awful lot like what Drumpf was saying before the election, that it was rigged.
I don't take either claim seriously, especially since the margins in PA, MI, and WI were well outside any possible rigging.
We lost this election. And no, I refuse to speculate on blame.

(187 posts)Officials also said they had detected Russian attempts to target state and local-level elections systems.
We also worked as quickly as possible to release as much information as possible in order to provide state and local officials sufficient time to fortify their infrastructure, the official said. The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI have put state elections officials on notice that hackers have been trying to access voter registration files and could cause havoc on Election Day. So far, 25 states have asked the department to help scan their computer networks for security weaknesses...
See also Washington Post reporting early hacks in Illinois and Arizona
This was a highly sophisticated attack most likely from a foreign (international) entity, said Kyle Thomas, director of voting and registration systems for the Illinois State Board of Elections, in a message that was sent to all election authorities in the state....
The Russian campaign is also sparking intense anxiety about the security of this years elections. Earlier this month, the FBI warned state officials to be on the lookout for intrusions into their election systems. The flash alert, which was first reported by Yahoo News, said investigators had detected attempts to penetrate election systems in several states and listed Internet protocol addresses and other technical fingerprints associated with the hacks.
But experts said that if a foreign government gained the ability to tamper with voter data for instance by deleting registration records such a hack could cast doubt on the legitimacy of U.S. elections.
James R. Clapper Jr., the director of national intelligence, has told Congress that manipulation or deletion of data is the next big cyberthreat the next push on the envelope."
