2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA couple of questions about your true thoughts on the Russian government.
I will answer myself as well.
1) Are you truly shocked in any way that the Russian government would attempt to influence our elections in a way that would be more favorable to them? I'm not shocked in the slightest. I would be seriously shocked if they didn't. We tamper with elections all over the place. It would be foolish not to.
2) Do you think that the election shouldn't be certified from what we currently know? Of course it should be certified. If what we currently know was enough information to void the election then this country would never be able to certify an election. I was hung up for a little bit because of Trumps words to the media about how the media would reward Putin if he were to hack Clinton. Truth is that it doesn't rise to the level of direct collusion.
There is a lot more out there on this topic. Possibly even proof that Trump was in direct coordination. As of right now, I see nothing shocking or that should stop the certification of the election.

(22,616 posts)We as Americans should be terrified... not that Putin wanted to influence our election.... but that it WORKED. That so many were swayed by fake news and internet comment leaving trolls. We'd like to think only a small percentage of us are so gullible and uneducated to be susceptible to this kind of thing... the truth is it is nearly half of America. This country is in BAD shape.

(15,720 posts)As to the Russia connection itself, I'm not sure it isn't meant to distract from the real crime of stealing votes in swing states, either by not counting provisional and mail-in ballots or outright manipulation of the records. I doubt if Russia was determinative but I'm fairly certain the number rigging was. But even if Russia isn't the worst or only perp I think it's great to stay focused on our compromised elections and the undemocratic results they produce.
p.s. JMHO, YMMV
