I'm sorta confused about this. There's a thread in the News forum about AOC characterizing attacks on Rep Omar as hurtful that was locked because it was deemed "Not important news of national interest." I'll readily admit that I'm no authority on news reportage, but that was a widely reported story that ardent supporters of Rep AOC, of which I am one, most certainly do find interesting.
My question is this: What criteria is used to determine which news stories are "important" and of "national interest"?

(1,783 posts)And for the record, I'm not trying to be a smartass here. I was merely curious after seeing a thread regarding a widely reported news item that garnered a lot of interest (Everything AOC does or says sparks interest ) get shut down for the stated reason it did.

(18,606 posts)DU mail the host who locked the thread listed in post #38: https://www.democraticunderground.com/10142280067#post38
AFAIK you can also send an email to the locking host to unlock. As a former host I suggest forming your message as an explanation of why the thread fits the forum SOP:
IMHO, arguing with a host could be deemed interfering with forum moderation. DU mail rather than open post discussion is the way to go.
Also, I've seen newsworthy threads locked because they are actually opinions pieces. I haven't looked at the story but just a thought to consider.

At any rate, I'm rapidly getting the vibe here that I best drop this subject. I just wanted to give you the courtesy of a reply.
Thanks again.

IMHO, you seem like a concerned and interested member. When you hit 1,000 posts and maintain your current no hides for 90 days status you can elect to be a main forums host if you want: https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=about&forum=1014
Have a great day.

(1,783 posts)Apropos of this, I served on my first jury last night as well. That said...whew! One thousand posts? That seems like a lot. I've been here a couple of years and just reached five hundred, and that because I'm home sick with a whopper of a cold. I'll get there one of these years, though.
Thanks again!
