Posting on DU: Shortcuts, Tips, and Codes

LINKING AND EMBEDDING MEDIA

Posting a URL: Just paste the URL into your post and it will appear as a link.

Turning text into a link: [link:https://www.website.com|your text]

Images: Paste a link directly to the image, eg. https://imgur.com/1234567.jpg

YouTube: Paste a link directly to the video, eg. https://youtube.com/watch?v=1234567

Twitter: Paste a link directly to the tweet, eg. https://twitter.com/username/status/1234567

Your media will be embedded when you preview your post.


POST FORMATTING

DU uses classic BB tags to format text. The tags can be typed manually, or you can use the formatting buttons as a shortcut. Clicking a formatting button once will open a tag at the cursor location; the button will turn yellow, and the tag will close when you click it again. Alternatively, you can select the text you want to format, then click the button of your choice once, and the selected text will be enclosed in the appropriate tags.

The full formatting of your post will be not be displayed until you preview your post. Accepted classic BB tags are:

Bold text: [b]your text[/b]

Italic text: [i]your text[/i]

Underlined text: [u]your text[/u]

Strikethrough text: [strike]your text[/strike]

Highlighted text: [highlight]your text[/highlight]

Monospace font: [monospace]your text[/monospace]

Excerpt box: [excerpt]your text[/excerpt]

Blockquote indent: [blockquote]your text[/blockquote]

Bulleted list: [ul][li]your list item[/li][/ul]

Numbered list: [ol][li]your list item[/li][/ol]

Subscript: [sub]your text[/sub]

Superscript: [sup]your text[/sup]


CLASSIC SMILIES

To embed a classic DU smiley, click the "classic smilies" button to expand the list and then click the smiley you want. The code for the smiley will be embedded into your post at the cursor location.

2. I have a question about preview and submit buttons

Can the buttons be put back to left side and right side (well separated)?
I almost hit submit when I wanted to preview because they are so close together. I'm using Skinner mode.

I only use my mobile for DU, so not sure if this is an issue in the computer version. I appreciate you looking into this.

3. I hate to be a nudge, but is there hope on the restitution of Greek letters and similar symbols?
