I'm seeing a "Privacy Preferences" section at the bottom of some DU pages at times, starting yesterday.

Seeing this

Privacy Preferences
We and our partners share information on your use of this website to help improve your experience. For more information, or to opt out click the Do Not Sell My Information button below

with the options below it "Consent" and "Do Not Sell My Information" with "Consent" highlighted.

I haven't clicked on it because I don't know why it's there or if it's supposed to be there.

It disappeared after I looked at a few other pages last night, reappeared again when I first logged in to DU this morning, then disappeared again from the bottom of pages, and is now back at the bottom of another page (this isn't a popup). And now it's gone again, as I change DU pages in another tab.

Anyone else seeing this?

EarlG, am I supposed to be seeing this on DU? Haven't seen it elsewhere.

But it seems to come back everyday. It feels like the, process is determined to sell my information..and waiting for me to make a mistake.

First error opt in. Then, forever more.

There’s a name for this in the industry, but it escapes me just now.

Is the green ‘verifying your browser’ crap
That one pisses me off since I don’t know who or what is ‘verifying my browser’ and why should they ?
In the past if I’m quick enough I can hit reload my page , and it stops it
but I have to be quick .

Thanks

When you close a browser window and maybe a tab it may clear your preferences. Generally stored in a cache.

I run into it quite often. Rarely on DU, but if it is your only and first stop, it’s likely to happen then.

Based on where you are or where DU is served from.

For instance, CA has some pretty firm “Do not sell” laws and when I am using a feed from there boxes pop up everywhere. Europe, too.

Do Not Sell, at the bottom of the pages. I click NoSell and still get it. The NoSell is different than in the past and for a few days I got both.
Service Not Available democraticunderground Connection closed unexpectedly
You cannot login You are already logged in. Receive frequently when I goback, but I'd gone to many pages since logging in.

At this moment the whole Privacy Preferences plus the question are at the bottom of this page.

Since it keeps coming back, I finally searched for the terms on duck duck go and top result was this DU thread.

I’m a star member and get no ads. I couldn’t figure out why DU would be asking to sell information when so many are anonymous. I wondered who the partners are as there’s literally no information.

if it’s a DU thing I’d rather pay a little extra to get rid of it and not worry about it. if it’s not a DU thing I don’t know what to do. Could it be Safari? DuckDuckGo?

But I've asked them if it can be branded so that people understand that the message comes from DU, and the answer was it can't be done. The banner is supposed to go away after you interact with it once, but for some people it comes back multiple times. In addition, if you're on mobile, there's a little green icon that appears on the screen at all times, even for Star Members, and I've asked them if that can be removed, and they also said no. And yes, they are also responsible for the annoying "verifying browser" interrupt page, which they've also told me can't be changed. So I will likely be changing our ad provider later this year.

Please note the last paragraph and that I cannot find "the following controls" so is my data being sold by Google? I know DU is not selling it.
Thank you for everything. After I click "Do not sell" the following appears:
