The War on Women and a Crusade Against Children?Abortion Denied = 50 Years of Tears and Tragedy
I wonder, "Why do we allow a minority faith group to define and supersede the health and affect the lives of others?" Their beliefs are called faith because there is no evidence to support them. If there were evidence, these would not be faith-based beliefs. Far too often, faith-based beliefs can be more objectively seen as fake-based beliefs. People may believe them, but there is no objective proof or evidence that these beliefs reflect reality.
As a young couple, Bob and Lila already had 3 children, and had started growing their 4th. They were quite involved in their community, and Lila was a talented pianist for their Unitarian Universalist church. During the third trimester of her pregnancy Lila developed troubling symptoms and went to the Catholic hospital, the only hospital within hours of their little town.
At the hospital the doctor told her the horrible news: their almost baby had died.
This was devastating. However, the worst part was that the doctors weren't going to do anything to remove the decaying tissue from her body. No, this was a Catholic hospital, and she would have to wait for her own body to push the remains out of her system.
In a normal and kinder world, an abortion would have been performed to remove the dead tissue and the grieving parents would have gone home to try and put their lives back together.
Afterwards, in a normal world, Lila would still be a caring mother for her children, she would still be able to dress and feed herself, and she would still be able to play the piano.
But this was not a normal and kinder world; this was before Roe vs. Wade, before abortion was legal. And this was a Catholic Hospital where to this very day, doctrine is still much more important than the life of the mother.
I will spare you the gruesome details. But the decaying remains caused an infection; sepsis set in, which caused a severe and crippling stroke, and Lila almost died. Against the odds Lila lived, sort of. And when she woke up she could no longer talk. Close to half of her body was affected, the stroke caused paralysis. She could no longer lift a spoon to feed herself, use the bathroom on her own, get dressed, undressed, or play the piano. She could no longer be an active mother to her children, and she could no longer have another child. The stroke affected her brain, and what was left of her was trapped inside the husk of her body.
So it fell to Bob to be caretaker to his wife and to his children.
Eventually the children grew up but for the next 50 years, Bob took care of Lila, until she died. Every day he'd wash, feed, and dress her. And every week he would bring her to church.
The back of Bobs car was filled with humorous, progressive bumper stickers, but his outright hatred of the Catholic church never died. They took away his wife, took away the mother of his children, and changed his life forever.
Both Bob and Lila have been gone for more than 10 years. But since abortion has once again been made illegal, I wanted to share their story because I guarantee that this horror will be forced upon other young families. Children will lose their mothers and husbands will be left with the shell of a wife, and women, through no fault of their own, will be trapped in their crippled bodies, for the rest of their lives. And for another 50 years, the cycle of pain, agony, and tears will continue.
In fact, ProPublica just reported thatA Texas Woman Died After the Hospital Said It Would be a Crime to Intervene in Her Miscarriage. https://www.propublica.org/article/josseli-barnica-death-miscarriage-texas-abortion-ban
Its almost like the Catholic Church has declared a "War on Women."
But wait, thats not all! Not only does it appear that the Catholic church has declared a War on Women, but it also appears there is, and was, a "Crusade Against Children." During this same time period, pedophile priests stalked the church and preyed on boys and girls. When the priests were discovered they were shipped off to other parishes, where they would continue the sexual abuse of the children entrusted to them in the new parish. Just days ago a headline in the LA Times blared L.A. Catholic church covered up molesting priests for decades. The price: $1.5 billion and so much pain.https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-10-19/hundreds-of-accused-priests-and-a-1-5-billion-payout-how-did-the-los-angeles-archdiocese-get-here
For this election, the rights of women, children and men depend upon your vote. We can see what happens when belief supplants reality. Today, there are 6 right wing Catholic judges on the Supreme Court. If Trump wins another term, (by coming in second, again) there will most likely be younger and even more radical judges added to the Court.
Please vote for laws based on reality and our Constitution instead of belief. Please vote for freedom from religious rule. And when you vote, remember you are helping to prevent another 50 years of tears and tragedy for other families like Bob and Lila.

that he continued to attend the Catholic Church. Why the fuck would any reasonable person return to the organization that cheerfully almost killed his wife, and I suspect never paid penny one to help for her care.

(101 posts)3. Sorry that wasn't clear, neither of us attended the Catholic church. But I can see how you reached that conclusion.
I'll try to clarify that later on today.

I'd guess this bias comes from their being run by supposedly celibate males for centuries on end? Men who have never really dealt with pregnancy even indirectly.
