(106,574 posts)with intractable (nonresponsive) pain. One can argue about the need for protections for children and that's fine, but that headline is really misleading. Given the cruelty as the policy of our own country for immigrant children, I'd surely expect better from those writing for the US edition of the Guardian.

(54,770 posts)OK if limited to "children who agonize with no hope, and unbearable suffering."
I think there are about 8 states here that permit euthanasia.

(52,340 posts)The news showed an 18 year old woman who had incurable brian tumor, agonizing pain 24/7, no hope of anything close to relief, lots of support from her family, etc but she needed two doctors to approve it and that was the hard part. Doctors don't want to give it their OK due to possible lawsuits.

(52,340 posts)I told my dad years ago that if when he gets older and is his jealth is too much to handle that I would buy him a one way ticket to Holland and he agreed. He ended up dying in his sleep 1 1/2 years ago, completely out of the blue and in great shape. We think maybe a blood clot was the reason, who knows. That is the only silver lining about him dying....at least he didn't suffer. He always was jealous of people who died that way.

Health decisions between Dr and patients only. Should always be private. But man...tough.
