The Mist is on the YouTube free movies section

It’s always been one of my favorite King stories, but never bothered to watch the movie(s?) because adaptations of his work are usually crap.

So far, so good! It’s going exactly by the book (novella, whatever), as far as I can remember. Even quoted bits of the dialogue along with the actors, which makes my little Constant Reader heart sing!

I’m paused at the aftermath of the night bug things getting the store, they are discussing going to the pharmacy. I hope Ms. Reppler does her badass tennis racket and Raid-cans-and-lighter awesomeness.

Posting then heating up a slice a pizza, then back to it!

Edit: JFC!!! That took a turn! Oh my god! It veered off the book... but damn, it worked. JFC!

Edit2: The way I remember the book ending is everyone else in the car is asleep, they still have plenty of gas, and David hears a faint voice on the radio broadcasting from Boston... so it’s a little open ended and a bit hopeful. I guess that’s anticlimactic for a movie, but DAMN! Was not expecting that ending.

That ending!! It was not like that in the book, but a very, very effective end for a movie. I’m still all shook up.

Was really hoping they’d include that part. In the book, the thing was so massive they couldn’t see the body as they were driving under it, just the legs and the huge footprint holes it left.

This was a great visual, though! Very Lovecraft-y.
I think Mr. King has arachnophobia as bad as I do. Monster spiders and spider-like thing show up everywhere in his stories: Mordred in the Dark Tower, It, Needful Things, Tommyknockers (IIRC?), Desperation... and that’s just off the top of my head! Ick. I hate spiders.

Also, I think they cast the actress deliberately to remind watchers of batshit-crazy Michelle Bachmann. When I read the book, I pictured a much older hag.

Expiation! Expiation!

I won't spoil for others but like it was a huge gut punch twist. I get a kick of how many of the characters were in the Walking Dead TV show that were in this movie.

because of the casting and Darabont.

One of my favorite SF horror movies.

Hollywood - we want more movies like this.

And they heard a faint message from Hartford, or I should say the message they heard was "Hartford" in the novella...
