(3,829 posts)I had a RE convention in 1998 in Miami and afterward we drove our rental to Key West and spent 3 days. When we left there we went to Key Largo and spent 2 days. The African Queen was docked close to Bogey's Bar on the docks.
At the time we were there, they weren't taking people on cruises because of maintenance issues. I wish I could have gone.
The boat is incredibly small, about 30 feet long.
It has only survived this long, due to long time fans and dedicated owners who worked hard to restore it.
A great tribute to a time long past.
PS And a great show!

(520 posts)This was some time ago - he wasn't quite a teenager, but was starting to practice for the event. (He's got a kid the same age, now.) His dad was taking him someplace, but had some things to do first.
So he came into the living room, saw what was on, and released his opinion of black-and-white movies. "What is this, the Stone Age?" But he perched on the arm of a chair, sighing and rolling his eyes for all he was worth. Time went by. His butt slid down off the arm and he was crosswise in the chair, watching. Leeches. Nazis. Rapids. Torpedoes.
By the time DH came in, he was no longer crosswise, and the nooses had come out. DH said "Ok, let's get going."
"Noooooo!!! I mean, we can wait. It's almost over."
We waited.
