Is anybody else here taking Toujeo?

My doctor switched me to it (from Lantus) two weeks ago. Instead of 28 units twice a day, I'm taking 50 units once a day. Since I started on it, I have had only one reading above 110 (and that was only 141). The rest of my readings have been between 88 and 110. I couldn't be more pleased!

1. Mark, I am still on Lantus 55 units once a day

I've wondered about Toujeo as it is supposed to have a flatter curve than Lantus. I am retired now and on Medicare with a supplement provided by my former employer (well I have to pay for it). There is the infamous "donut hole" that comes with part D. This past year I hit the hole in November. Fortunately I have enough Lantus to make it well into the new year.

I eliminated a non generic drug, Onglizia, which was not effective as well as expensive. I have been able to reduce my Lantus dose from 85 units to 55 and have good control. The bike is my friend. I've got 12 full vials of Lantus in the fridge so I would not want to switch soon.

Also are you taking any orals such as Metformin? My wife found that Metformin can cause a deficiency of B-12 in some people which can lead to nerve trouble. I sometimes have hand tremors which is not due to low sugar (I get those as well but they come with other symptoms). After doing my own research I decided to take a sublingual B-12. I've been using it for less than a week but there is marked improvement of hand tremors and sensitivity in my feet.

2. I started taking Toujeo about 6 weeks ago

I take my BS twice a day and so far, I'm not impressed.

I was taking 28 units once a day of Lantus. I'm taking 28 units once a day (bedtime) of Toujeo which is supposed to be a longer lasting insulin. The goal is to bring my evening BS down. I'm ok in the morning, but my BS rises during the day.

I'll stay on it until my next appointment, but I'll ask for a different plan. I suspect the answer will be taking a short acting insulin before dinner. I'd really like to a void another needle because even once a day is onerous for me -- I hate it.

As for cost, under my RX plan (I'm on Medicare), I was paying $90 for FIVE Lantus pens ($18/pen). I'm now paying $90 for THREE Toujeo pens ($30/pen). The volume in each pen is the same and I'm taking the same number of units. So, it represents an increase in the cost of the medication. Since it doesn't seem to have an effect, I'd rather stay on the less expensive drug.

I take no diabetes pills as my kidneys are already rat-shit.

I was taking 28 units of Lantus twice per day also. But I am taking 50 units once a day of Toujeo. Maybe the dosage needs to be upped?

As for the cost, my doctor gave me a card for a prescription program offered by the manufacturer, Sanofi, that provides for a copay of only $15 per pack, with a maximum benefit of $500 per pack (depending on how much your insurance covers). You might want to ask about that.

4. I take Toujeo

120 units once a day along with 3 40 unit doses of Novo Rapid every day. My Blood sugars are still high at 200.

I liked Lantus better.
