Lindsey Harding is one of the Mystics' top head coach candidates, according to report
Earlier this fall, I wrote about potential Washington Mystics General Manager candidates. I didnt focus on head coaches because I felt the GM would have more say or responsibility over that decision.
But with Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger looking to have both positions report to him directly, I was wondering whom he may want to be next Mystics head coach. According to Mitchell Northam of The Womens Basketball Podcast, Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Lindsey Harding is on of the top candidates for the head coach position
.
Currently, Harding is on J.J. Redicks staff with the Lakers. She and Redick have been friends for over 20 years because both attended Duke University at the same time on basketball scholarships and started in the same year. Redick graduated in 2006 and was part of the mens basketball team that made the Final Four in 2004. Harding made two Final Four appearances with the womens basketball team and was on the 2005-06 team that was the national runner up to Maryland. After her college career, Harding spent nine years in the WNBA as a player including with the Mystics from 2009-10. The 2010 team was long regarded as the best performing team in Mystics franchise history until 2018 when the Mystics made their first Finals appearance.
After retiring as a player, Harding joined the Philadelphia 76ers in 2018 as a player development coach. She moved onto the Sacramento Kings organization in 2019 in a similar role, elevating to a full-time bench assistant in 2022, and becoming the Stockton Kings head coach, winning the G League Head Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season.
