Yesterday, I bought an ounce of "shake" for $34.99 (plus tax). I had never heard the term or seen it used at this store, and I thought the online listing must be an error, since that's also their price for 1/8th ounce of premium flower. A quick search revealed that it's "the loose, fragmented pieces of cannabis flower that accumulate at the bottom of a bag or container. It consists of small buds, broken leaves, and trichomes that naturally separate during transportation or handling." It's said to be cheaper because it isn't as pretty as big buds, and apparently it can be somewhat less potent if there's a lot of leaf in it. But since I had been browsing to see what strains they had at their lowest price of $129/oz, I decided it was well worth a try -- and it definitely was! What I got was mostly finely ground powder -- lots of trichomes! -- maybe a little too fine for joints, but it's perfect for going straight into my dry herb vaporizer or my "one-hitter" with no grinding. I was so happy with such a bargain (and it's funny that the strain's name was Happy Camper), I went back this morning and saw that they had shake from another strain listed. Since I'm not sure if this is going to be one of their standard offerings, I reserved an ounce to pick up today.
If this does become one of their standard products, I'm jumping on it every time!

(6,477 posts)They have 'flower' and 'grind'. I suspect that they do this to dispose of the shake that is created from working with cannabis. But, it is also done to be convenient to users who prefer to use vapes or a dugout (pinch hitter).

Having been a "trimmer" once upon a time, I can attest that much of the shake content is trimmings from buds during processing, and bottom of the bags during transport. It all gets sold. I use shake for cooking and medicinal concoctions. Bud's too good for those uses.

(93,098 posts)For the majority of it, just as good. It does have some leaf in it which does degrade it a little, but mostly the taste as the leaf gives it a sort of sour taste, other than that it is as good.

(5,490 posts)and the schwag and "sweet leaf" trim to make tinctures. The big trim I usually give to a friend who makes wax/oil, otherwise I throw that into the compost along with the fan leaves. The scissor hash I roll into small pea-sized balls and keep in a mason jar to occasionally spice up a blunt or bong rip. The stalks and branches I use for kindling in my fireplace. I try not to waste anything.
