Puerto Rico governor grants immunity to healthcare facilities and professionals

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced signed on Wednesday evening the Administrative Bulletin OE 2020-36, which grants immunity to healthcare facilities and professionals assisting the government in responding to the emergency caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“We needed to grant the immunity established by this Executive Order so that it is available to the hospital facilities and the health personnel that are voluntarily joining the battlefront of this emergency,” said the Administrative Bulletin signed by the governor.

The objective is to offer medical facilities and health professionals the ability to exercise their functions without the “apprehension or fear of feeling threatened by a claim of medical malpractice, while providing assistance to the Government of Puerto Rico.”

The immunity will be valid as long as the island is under state of emergency as declared by the governor.
