(29,802 posts)Springfield is extremely red so I don't know what to think. It's the international headquarters of Assemblies of God.

(14,507 posts)almost every one of them will vote Democratic if the nominee is Joe Biden, if it's Bernie, they'll not vote, the one constant is that almost all truck drivers are disgusted with the Mango Menace because of the tariffs and a HUGE percentage of truck drivers are either Republicans or Independents.
My take is that a lot of Republicans are voting for Joe in the Primaries.

(14,507 posts)but our main complaint is his bullshit tariffs, the big trucking companies, Swift, JB Hunt, Land Star, etc, are all doing fairly well, but us independents are struggling for good paying loads.
I'm one of the lucky ones, I've got a very good agent who sees to it that I get good loads with good mileage rates.

(29,802 posts)But its still high turn out and Springfield is extremely red. Driving there for competitions makes me cringe during election season.

(12,011 posts)In 2016 I think the Republican primary was still competitive by this point. So if turnout in our primaries are not up significantly from 2016 that's not a great sign.

(1,089 posts)A 5% or so increase in turnout is nothing to write home about, especially since it should go up some just from normal population increase alone. But like I said, Mizzou is pretty much a lost cause for the time being. Likely not even close to being a swing state any time soon. But Dem turnout in many other states looks real good so far so I take that as a good sign.
I don't remember Missouri being all that bad back in the late 70s and early 80s when I was working there but I was pretty much apolitical back then so maybe it was and I just wasn't paying any attention. I was too busy chasing skirts, playing softball, getting drunk and trying to learn how to do my job to worry about politics. Ahhh, to be in my 20s again...LOL. That's why Bernie shouldn't have relied so much on the youth vote...they are no more reliable today than I was back then.
