Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumCheck me if I got something wrong about Bernie's speech...
1. Old voters were wrong to support Biden.
2. Young people are more important even when they don't vote.
3. The Democratic Establishment is still the problem
4. My issues are the most important.
5. I'm going to give Biden a hard time in Sunday's debate.

(18,402 posts)I can say with some certainty that you probably nailed it precisely. It's his modus operandi, and it's getting more irrational (and mean-spirited, and self-centered) by the day. As during the Trump primaries and general election of 2016, I keep wondering why people don't see how unfit for the office the man is. I will never have an answer for this, and it's creating as much existential angst as COVID-19.

(10,224 posts)a tired worn out boxer will just start flailing, throwing wild punches that aren't even landing on the other boxer.
That is usually what takes place just before the other boxer lands a knock out punch, or the ref calls the fight for the health of the boxer....
Bernie is now past the point of showing any dignity or class. It really is sort of sad.....actually pitiful....
I'm waiting to see if he will even come out in backing Biden if Biden wins.......It took him some time after his defeat to Hillary, I expect this time it could be longer or not at all.
Can he switch to being an independent candidate and run, just to hurt the Dems and Biden????? split the vote?????

(1,753 posts)many could have realized Bernie was getting hot under the collar...acting somewhat desperate and even angry. Then the virus hit and Joe became the calm soothing person that most of us often look for in a crisis. So I believe it was a combination of both and that's why some his supporters either did not vote for him, or possibly even voted for Biden.

(17,424 posts)I guess that way he doesn't have to address that AA voters across several states completely rejected him.
It's only about the young'uns having a good time at the rallies that matter -- not actual voters, and especially not black voters.

(12,011 posts)Ditto with the commentators on CNN. I thought Bernie was much more conciliatory, didn't really attack Biden, pointed out some data from the exit polls, and spent half the press conference attacking Trump, which is what many on here have called on him to do.

(11,530 posts)If the debate turns into an actual policy discussion--progressive vs liberal/moderate ideas--that's one thing. Could actually be instructive, the manner of funding and the realistic probability of legislative action on a variety of programs.
If, however, this turns into a shouting match, where the basic point is to bloody Biden's nose and damage the presumptive nominee's chances in November, then I'll be screaming from the rooftops that Sanders needs to go. As in, yesterday.
We don't need anymore lectures on 'The Democratic Establishment rigging the primaries' or 'Corporate Whore/Wall St. Toady' slurs. This only helps Trump. And we certainly do not need a lecture on how our Democratic base was/is wrong in their nominee choice. Bernie knew who the base was and how no nominee could win a Democratic primary without their support. He did nothing to enhance his support among the AA community. That's on him.
Consequently, Bernie Sanders has no path to the nomination. The enemy is Donald Trump and his enablers. WINNING is everything in November. If Bernie cannot muster enough grace to know how and when to bow out for the sake of the country, I have no time for him or his supporters.

(38,946 posts)Bernie is bringing Americans to the Democratic arena. Democrats should help them stay there. We can do it with evidence-based reasoning, argument, not passive-aggressive setup posts.
We're not helping the party when we are emotional and reactive. Perez and the rest of party leaders know that primary voters in remaining primary states still want to be paid attention to. To act as if the rest of the primaries aren't important is to make those Americans feel that the party doesn't consider them important, either.
Not to work with anyone new to this party will just play into media who want to help Trump claim that Democrats and the party are always split.
We're not.
