Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHow many people here believe that Biden can win without Bernie supporters?
Or is it that we have an inordinate amount of trolls that think otherwise?
Bernie supporters do not want him to drop out right now. It takes 1991 delegates to capture the nomination on the first ballot. Joe Biden now has over 800 votes. Why should they want Bernie to drop out right now?
Joe is not even half-way to the nomination yet. At least, not in votes cast.
I do not trust those folks that are crapping all over the Bernie supporters at this moment. They do not appear to want the Democrats to win?

Everyone else not following Tulsi Gabbard will vote for Biden, provided Trump allows the election to take place, a dimming prospect IMHO.

(4,727 posts)Someone who abuses people online? I, myself supported Sanders in '16, but voted Warren this time around. I will support Bernie in the General, if he were the candidate, and he would be my preference to Biden, but I don't go attacking people online for having different views than mine.

(24,633 posts)to vote for tRump. We should expect a % of Sanders voters to not vote at all, and we should expect the majority of Sanders voters to vote for Biden.
We need GOTV efforts to offset the Sanders voters who will not vote for Joe.

Bernie now needs blow outs to win I dont think he will drop out this week or even next based on his past performances I hope Im wrong and he impresses me but after listening to him today and given that his chance of winning is less then 1 percent atm according to 538 I fully expect him to stand up for that 1 percent as opposed to trying to push the agenda and uniting the party but its awfully hard to unite a party or lead one u wont join

(16,888 posts)Wind at his back. Sanders is in a worse position than he was at this point in 2016. And its all happening organically. Yet some want to give Sanders supporters excuses to keep fighting by short circuting this. I actually don't think it's trolls. Some people are just so blinded by hatred for him because they blame him for 2016 (inaccurately in my opinion) that they aren't thinking rationally or strategically. It's why i was hoping he wouldn't run again... just too divisive. But he did and here we are. And he's losing worse and yet some people just aren't satisfied with that. Go figure.

Best to not let up from an opponent till he throws the towel in u think we beat trump any other way I feal my self I like Bernies views I agree on health care on student loans Im not sure how on earth we pay for them and tbh neither is he but Im still a fan of the lone dissent on a court case it can drive the effort but no one should let off till he stops swinging

We ever get them the hard core 1s anyway so if like in 2016 they stay home and were not gonna get them is it not smarter to write them off now and go after moderate voters in Michigan and Ohio and try to form a collation of moderates to win back Wisconsin and Pennsylvania but I think thats the bigger issue is in that rural dems that wouldnt vote for Hillary that cost us in all those rural counties Bernie won in Michigan 4 years ago that joe won last night and by large margins Hillary I think was more why they stayed home not a love of Bernie and what cost us 2016

(17,757 posts)because they are not getting things their way, they best be sure they will escape the blaze. I do not understand how anyone who claims to be a centrist, or left of center could stay home or vote for a fascist. If they do, and it causes ourselves the election then we get what we get. All nations fail at some point.

(1,977 posts)I have a feeling this is about democrats being nasty to Bernie supporters. Which I find to be a joke. While not all Bernie supporters are antagonistic, a great many are. And not just the russian bots either. The people that go on news are as well. Hell the candidate himself has been uncomplimentary to the Democratic party himself.
I am tired if being threatened by people I align with on most every issue.

(9,604 posts)The Majority of Bernie or Busters left DU in 2016 for the site that wont be named. (Good Riddance!)
So pretty much they know the Sander supporters here are going to be the democratic loyalists. They know we arent going to not vote nor not vote Democratic. So they know that they can troll us to their Hearts content.
I mean, what are we going to do?
They can say whatever they want and we cant do anything short of appealing to a jury for rule violations and hoping that it is an objective jury.
Further should we win the General election they can then say they didnt need us and that we are a liability that DU needs to get rid of from the site. If we lose the general that just will allow them to say that was because Bernie and his supporters cost us the election like they did in 2016 regardless of whether that is true or not and try to have us removed from the site and have Bernie declared an enemy of DU.
We cannot win in any of these arguments on here...and they know that.

(25,195 posts)with the attitude of "we need everyone we can get". I think the Sanders supporters were mightily pissed four years ago because of the underhanded way that the Democratic National Committee was seen to conspire secretly with the Hillary Clinton campaign in a way that Joe Biden's campaign has not been seen to do.
Yes, persuading so-called centrist candidates to support Joe Biden has been a bone of contention for some Sanders supporters, but at least it was all done above board. That gives me some hope, but hopefully the IT consultants to the DNC learned a lesson from four years ago, and won't let a weak password (or whatever exposed Podesta's emails) to happen again.

(219 posts)Courting independents, unhappy Republicans and "Have never voted"'s is a smarter strategy. Had they been smart, they would have supported Biden and used their clout to negotiate from strength to forward agenda, but it's a cult of personality and has nothing to do with an agenda.

(3,853 posts)I think that level of loss can be made up with increases in Independents and White suburban women. Biden's coalition is much broader than Hillary's and we won't have to deal with the anti-Hillary voters this year. I don't think Bernie realized how much of his 2016 vote was really an anti-Hillary vote until he starting losing primaries by such large margins.

(6,309 posts).... all of Bernie's supporters to vote for him. He only needs those who are mature enough to understand what is at stake. And that is another thing. People need to stop talking about Bernie supporters as if they are one entity sharing one brain. That may accurately describe the self-centered, immature faction known as the Bernie Bros, and there should not be one minute wasted trying to convince them to vote for Joe, but it is a far cry from the description of the rational Sanders supporter.
