Is the Sanders Campaign Hoping That Joe Biden Dies?
Surely that cannot be true. There must be some other reason for the Senator to continue in the face of a humiliating loss. I hope someone can offer a less maudlin reason for his decision to remain in this primary race.

(96,043 posts)This vulture's hope is emerging as a theme among some of his supporters, it seems....
"From Bernie’s perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they don’t want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

(17,819 posts)It is uncanny the things that Bernie's campaign and its supporters say...
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/aug/09/trump-gun-owners-clinton-judges-second-amendment
The volatile Republican nominee was speaking at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, about the next president’s power to appoint supreme court justices. “Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the second amendment,” said Trump, eliciting boos from the crowd.
“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the second amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, that will be a horrible day.”
The second amendment to the constitution protects the right of Americans to bear arms. Trump has accused his Democratic rival of wanting to abolish it, a charge that she denies.

(96,043 posts)The 'chicks up front' types, who wanted women in the front rank of demonstrations clearly going sour as police lines advanced, because it might give good pictures in the paper never impressed me much. A man of honor would have done it himself, openly and without the least fudge in his words.

(7,749 posts)At some point the "boomer remover" tweets kind of crossed over into the "Sleepy Joe" lane, and red roses appeared on both. At the time, it was a plate of spaghetti, covered with the sauce of grasping C-19 itself, with the meatballs of Seattle and Italy and New York taking my attention. In hindsight, the patterns were so obvious. (This analogy is making me hungry, and is, I'm sure, influenced by watching those Cuomo brothers being so funny together.)
I do not know that it is the campaign itself that's doing it, though there are certainly some weirdos working for him. This morning, I'm just seeing Putin at the wheel, and that's another plate of spaghetti.
What I do not get: Why it is not obvious that both of them were in the original "high risk" category. Now that it's happening to younger people, it looks like that was sort of a myth, but they are both over 60 and vulnerable. Of course, Sanders has the heart thing.
There is so much I do not understand right now, but what is clear is that a great president can assemble a team and get buy-in from his political adversaries. That's Joe. Thanks for being there, Joe.

(148,836 posts)I recall a thread you started yesterday based on a similar topic.
Your thread speculated on what would happen if Joe Biden died. Having read many of your posts over the past couple of months, I found that one very interesting, indeed. Interesting enough, in fact, for me to write the post that begins this thread.
So, thank you for the reply.

There is a rational argument that if Biden MIGHT die, it is better for Sanders to be in the race than to have withdrawn. For those who support his policies and candidacy at all, anyway. This logic does not necessitate that the arguer hopes Biden dies. Just that they think it is a not insignificant possibility.
That said, one reason I have been so down on Sanders even running this time, is he has a subset of followers who are absolutely horrible. I have no doubt that some among them do actively hope for Biden's death.

(71,122 posts)changer and people will flock to Sander because of M4A during this crisis...I don't think they will. He is finished...looks like he will be humiliated in Wisconsin which will have a primary because of an important judge election. The GOP who want to kill folks as usual refused the governors request for a mail in election. There is still a court action that is pending so we shall see.

(148,836 posts)Our risk of infection is much higher, of course, but even then, the risk of death is still low, even for older people, although it is higher for those over 70. However, if proper precautions are taken, the risk of death for anyone remains quite low.
All of the potential players in the 2020 election are over 70 years of age. I expect all three to still be around in November, although only two will be standing for election at that time.
The campaign, however, will be missing the normal "pressing of the flesh."
