(96,043 posts)Around a quarter of the people who voted for Sanders in the 2016 primary did not cast ballots for the Democratic nominee that November. So putting up a dollar to get back four would be reasonable odds. A bit long but hardly daunting.
"From Bernies perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they dont want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

(16,880 posts)How we can continue to miss the gravity of the court races and also who appoints the unelected ones is astounding to me. And all down-ballot races are incredibly important as we can see from the redistricting that followed the 2010 mid-terms.

(18,073 posts)I really don't like this idea of electing supreme court judges. People end up buying their seats on the court.

(6,312 posts)Although I think Bernie should pack it in, your state held an election and you voted for the candidate of your choice. Good job!
And of course the election included more than our primary.

(9,591 posts)Just remember that the folks who voted for Ralph Nader in 2000 and Jill Stein in 2016 thought that their pure thoughts and unblemished idealism could overcome dark money, dirty tricks, deceit, division and lies and brought us eight years of Dubya and Orange Julius first term.
Ill applaud you for voting, but dont expect me to have high regard for your judgment.
I do hope you paid attention to those down-ballot contests.

(12,008 posts)As voting for your candidate of choice in the primary. The OP already said he or she would vote for whomever the Democrats nominate in November.
You should be glad for every brave Democrat who turned out in Wisconsin today no matter which presidential candidate they voted for. There's a general election for a state supreme court seat and many other judgeships in Wisconsin happening today, that many, mostly Dems in urban areas, won't be able to participate in due to health concerns and ridiculously long lines due to the state cutting 180 polling places in Milwaukee down to 5.

(18,073 posts)We have same day registration in Wisconsin, so the person doing that was sitting outside.
Its just a one block walk for me, and it was my normal polling station. Apparently another precinct had been added, but it wasn't overloaded like the polls in Milwaukee.
Inside everyone was wearing gloves and a mask, and I wore my own. I wore my coat so I never touched anything.
There were plastic shields in front of the people who had to check your ID.
The one glitch, and its a big one, was that the ballot scanner kept jamming. There were 2 poll workers trying to fix it - one guy without gloves was opening it up and trying to fix it while another person was reading the instructions. After a few minutes a half dozen of us were standing around with our ballots, since we couldn't put them in the scanner.
So they decided they had to call for another machine. One person collected all our ballots and put them in a transparent plastic bag. There were about 8 poll workers who saw her do this so I wasn't worried about my ballot. This could have happened at any election and it probably does.

(18,073 posts)I thought it was a joke, but they were dead serious. So the poll worker, a black woman, kind of danced from side to side with it. Didn't fix the scanner though. Maybe it wasn't the right dance.

(18,073 posts)I'm in IT, and I don't know how many times I've told users to open and shut the paper bins on the copier because the copier likes it. That's not in the manual, its just something everybody does.
I did not laugh at the dancing poll worker, but the situation was kind of absurd now that I think about it.

(1,659 posts)You participated in democracy by voting for the person best representing the policies you believe in. In the general election, you will participate in democracy again by voting for the Democrat...which 99.99% means Joe Biden.
That is good news and the most logical path for you based on your values. Joe Biden and Bernie are closer than people say during a competitive primary. And they are both good guys.
Russianpublican trolls want to divide us. We also need less bullying, less negativity and more people to recognize this.

(1 post)Okay. Now I get it. The pieces fell into place as I was logging in to respond to this post. It was a misunderstanding on my part. The Democratic Underground here could, in my opinion, be more accurately be called the Democratic Party Underground. That said, good for you, good for us. We vote by mail in my state and I will be voting for Bernie Sanders also.

(96,043 posts)Welcome to the forum, should you decide to stay.
The proprietors' rules do enjoin support for Democrats, and disallow third party support during elections. Otherwise, the place does skew pretty strongly to the left, though in the Primaries forum, that may not be so apparent.

(11,949 posts)Heres my read on DU. A site called Democratic Underground that has rules that to be here you must support the Democratic candidate is kind of likely to support a Democratic Party member
We, by and are large, are not progressive underground. Most here are not self avoid socialist. Because most here are even more educated that me and know what socialism really is.
If you want a home with lots of Social Democrats this is it. It you are looking for a place for Democratic Socialist you will have some friends but not the majority.
But as long as you promise to support the Democratic Party nominee and are not insulting it is a great site.
I love it. But although I am called a flaming liberal by my friends Im seen to be a moderate here!
