Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumOkay I will admit I wanted Bernie to endorse Joe.
But he probably did the best he could with the moment. But honest to GOD I hope the Grays of the world and the rest of his staff clean up their act. Breathing deeply..

(121,224 posts)The best we could have expected from him is that he stopped campaigning, and he's not even doing that; he's still trying to accrue convention delegates. It will be 2016 all over again, I'm afraid, with the bros hooting and booing from the galleries.

(96,043 posts)It would be best, in fact, not to use him even as a secondary campaign surrogate.
He has no influence over his most devoted followers, and the rest will come over of themselves.
He actively repels the middle of the road voters, especially suburban women, who have grown disgusted enough with the cheap thug Trum to be open to changing their habits, and voting for a Democrat.

(96,043 posts)I do not do Twitter myself, but the wife does, and reports her feed full of comments to the effect that 'I'll be damned if I'll vote for Biden no matter what 'Bernie' says or does.' Doubtless a portion are bots and trolls, but the situation is what it is. Inflame people past a certain point, they move outside of your directing control. Yet again, a 'revolution' is eating its own. Sanders' real influence, though he does not seem to realize it, is dwindling by the hour, and by August will be small as the man himself.

(23,013 posts)The vast majority of Bernie's actual supporters in 2026 voted for Hillary, and a higher percentage of them will end up voting for Biden in 2020.
The voices you speak of exist. They do not deserve the flattery of our attention.
I will not further debate Bernie Sanders with you because it seems to me not to be a fruitful use of my time. Others may if they so choose. I will focus instead on actual issues, and on the steps that can be taken by us all to help ensure that Joe Biden becomes our next President. Belittling Bernie Sanders, and whatever degree of influence he retains, seems to me not to be among the latter.

(96,043 posts)There is nothing much to debate about the man, or the character of a good portion of his followers. But the clearer his failure is made, the less harm he and his most fanatic followers can do. I do not view taking note of a destructive element as flattering it, or feeding it, or any such thing. I view it the way I used to view a fellow with a knife back in my 'adventurous youth' --- something to be aware of, and alert to any sudden moves by. If this position forfeits your friendship, I will regret that, but I have let go of people I felt affection for before.

(23,013 posts)Even with those with whom I often strongly disagree, and you are far from being among those, I continue to hold them in honor when their motives are sincere and their desire for the well being of our people remains paramount. Everything else is secondary at most. We continue as close allies in this struggle for greater justice for all.

(23,013 posts)A sentiment that has not wavered over any of the intervening posts. When we momentarily slip into opposing roles, we do so as sparring partners at most. And sparring partners are mutually beneficial.

(58,785 posts)his campaign. Who knows, perhaps something will happen to take out our nominee this time, creating a need for him to step forward -- and try to keep us from replacing Biden with one of our liberal Democratic candidates who share his and Democratic Party's liberal values and goals.
We can always hope for the best, but it would be foolish to be surprised if these leopards don't change their spots. Even after he finally endorsed our nominee last time, his camp's intensive and vicious social media campaign against her continued right up to election day, and long after -- following Sanders' instructions while he made a few tepid public appearances in a pose of support.

Btw, Russia and other nations are still using this election in their wars against us, Russia reportedly still considers Sanders their asset, and we'll be seeing more of all their work as this giant battle for national and planetary power continues.
None of these newly reported faked documents targeting Democrats involved Biden or Sanders.

(12,008 posts)Suspending is a technical term, and it's how most candidates end their campaign. I'm almost positive Warren also suspended, and I think some of the others did as well.

(58,785 posts)along with the rest of the staffers he'll not be needing any more. Those are particularly expensive, and it would be a positive action to back up his words.
Look, I'm a believer in believing people when they show me what they are -- the first time and the 500th. When he shows me he's changed, I won't forgive or forget, too much lives on as unforgiveable and should never be forgotten, but I'll be genuinely glad he's on our side against the Republicans and foreign enemies and happy to ally with him. Btw, maybe he should write them a letter of intent and publish it on line and as an op ed in the NYT for the entire nation to see.
