(1,898 posts)Sooooo many people complain about this or that. They blame Bernie for Trump 2016 when the truth is obvious.
More than anything else, Bernie is known for sincerity. There's no way he would try to divide the Democratic primary field in order to conquer. He will win honestly and running away and then Trump won't stand a chance.
Perrenial Voter
(173 posts)distortions of the 2016 race. If all the candidates are "vetted" in the same manner, Trump will win re-election. There already people spouting misinformation, such as that David Sirota was working for Bernie when he "smeared" Beto O'Rourke by reporting his contributions from oil companies, that Lucy Flores is lying because she supports Bernie and wants to take out Biden, and that Bernie supported the Iraq War and US intervention in Libya. These things are being transformed into "facts" through repeated repetition.
It's pretty obvious that there are lot of Democrats who really hate Bernie and are willing to project all sorts of misdeeds onto his record. It makes me wonder if he might be in the inverse position to the one Clinton was in in 2016: popular enough to win the general election, but too many negatives for the primary.

(28,270 posts)We are not large in number around here, but we do back the finest candidate by far in the race!

(38,381 posts)how high the Sanders supporters would be here if they hadn't migrated to another board.

(928 posts)I think many refrain from being identified as a Bernie supporter because of the ugliness around here.
I have noticed a trend in some of the posts of Bernie supporters not engaging with some of the more ugly posters. I like it. They won't go away just because they're being ignored, but there's no reason to lower ourselves.

(11,489 posts)As divisive as some DUers are it's hard to believe they really want a Democrat to win. And they have the audacity to call Sanders divisive?

(6,073 posts)There is a post with a goper, Rick Wilson, attacking Bernie and accusing him of attacking Biden. Even though this is forbidden, it is allowed to stand.

(4,377 posts)It started in earnest after he lost the nomination in '16 and its been the same ever since. People can post basically anything about Bernie they want and it will stand, while the same behavior is never tolerated against any other candidate.
Well actually that's not completely true, people can smear Tulsi Gabbard as much as they like too apparently.

(29,369 posts)And Meek. There was controversy on this board because there were a lot of Charlie Crist supporters when Kendrick Meek was the only actual candidate that was a Democrat. Anyways Skinner weighed in and allowed it because of poll numbers so he allowed support for either Meek or Crist and also he used the Bernie Sanders exception to allow the support.
After they both lost there were angry Crist supporters accusing Meek voters of splitting the vote (when all the Crist voters if they voted for Meek would have beat the GOP).
I only bring that up because it is ironic in light of the "he's not a Democrat" and Sanders has a consistently liberal record while Crist left the GOP when he couldn't win.

(1,898 posts)Your facts are all spot on. I would add 1 point:
The DSCC did a poor job of motivating the base that cycle, as it usually does in Florida, which trails only a few states such as Texas in voter apathy.
Sunshine State Democrats only turn out in large numbers for statewide races during presidential cycles. Just ask Andrew Gillum. He should have WALKED into the Governor's mansion. The Democratic Governors Association did far too little. My door wasn't knocked even ONCE during the 2018 cycle.

(130 posts)Hello back, glad to see the "band getting back together" again. I read DU a lot, but lurk and generally don't post. Have been a bit trouble by the vitriol I'm starting to see already, but that always comes with the territory it seems these days.
