Salute to America 250 guests told to seek shelter, then evacuate DC July 4th event amid storms - USA Today



Severe thunderstorm warnings and poor weather have wreaked havoc on Fourth of July celebrations along the East Coast. They included:

Boston: Around 6:30 p.m. police asked those attending the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular to take shelter because of impending weather.

New York: A severe thunderstorm warning is effect for New York City but events have not yet been cancelled.

Washington, DC: Salute to America attendees on the National Mall were asked to evacuate at 7 p.m. due to approaching thunderstorms. - 07/04/2026.

1. The local fireworks are going off right now, as a severe thunderstorm is coming.

Trying to fit it in i guess, fireworks guys get paid no matter what, so might just as well fire them off.

3. There's a severe weather alert in Philadelphia, too, but for whatever reason the Ben Franklin Parkway is still packed

And I completely agree with you, it's time to remove those musicians from the stage for their protection. Can't they postpone the concert?

It's a pretty big thing every year, but this year especially because of Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, etc. They're having Christina Aguilera, Jill Scott, the Roots, Jazzy Jeff and a bunch of others. It's always packed, but I'm sure this is twice as packed as usual

7. Americans are hoping to celebrate, and this is their chance. But they should take shelter if the concert is postponed

And I keep hearing what sound like thunder boomers here, but I'm guessing it's a fireworks show. I'm hoping it's the Lake George/West Mountain fireworks show just to the north rather than serious fireworks set off by one of my close neighbors which they have done before.
