I have pair of shoes my dad gave me in the late 80s. The shoe repair guy has resoled them twice, each time they got smaller, I finally wore a toe through the leather. When I finally put them in the dumpster, I heard them sigh in relief.

I have lived in TN. Lots of cool working class people there who I would be surprised to find voted Trump.
People who were at least nice in person to me though I am nonwhite, female and probably fairly obviously liberal. Ot course people sometimes vote differently from how they behave..

I at least left TN with a positive view of working class white people based on personal experience. Much like I generally have a positive take on working class people anywhere. Obviously, given how red TN is most people there vote red. So presumably some of the people who are nice in person have politics that are lunatic.

Of course that was long before Trump has started trying to make a civil war happen.

About how they stereotype truckers. A lot also have higher education beyond high school.

If you run a truck for any length of time, you learn the BUSINESS of transportation and how things really function in this country. The education one gains on the road is something that cannot be easily described. There are probably fewer redneck truckers than one might imagine.

And there are a LOT of vets out there.
