Ukrainian law prohibits holding elections in wartime (unlike the US Constitution, which requires it).

Ukraine's Constitution prevents the Ukrainian government from holding elections or amending the constitution in times of martial law.[6]

Russia triggered Ukraine's martial law provisions when it launched its illegal invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian government cannot constitutionally suspend martial law while Russia continues to attack Ukraine.

Ukrainian opposition politicians, including those who have historically run against Zelensky, have stated that holding elections under martial law would be both illegal and immoral.[7]

5. I could not quickly find an earlier article quickly that had a poll of Ukraine

showing support for martial law suspending its elections.
Unlike Trump, Zelensky's approval ratings are not under water.
He's not a dictator.

Europe has roughly matched the US support for Ukraine.
To lose US support is probably devastating.
The rest of the free world needs to step up or other countries like Poland or Finland are next.

As well, Musk had been letting Ukraine use Starlink to defend itself.
If Musk stops that or allows Russia to use Starlink to go after Ukraine, as he probably will, that too could be devastating.

6. I certainly agree, this lying failed businessman is changing the world order

And not just the U.S. government, but the American people have supported Ukraine since they were first attacked. Changing U.S. policy is insane at this late date. But TFG and Musk are also attacking this country and the American people as well, so this should come as no surprise. I'm grateful to hear that Europe is stepping up, but we also know that TFG is abandoning our long time allies and embracing our long time adversaries. There must be a legal way to get rid of Musk, but TFG is a different story. The justice system has let us down, he should be behind bars for his crimes against this country - and he certainly was unqualified to run for any public office, but both he and anyone who voted for him are abandoning the Constitution. We fought a war for independence 249 years ago, it's tough to believe that we're finding ourselves at the mercy of an absolute ruler again. And as much as this devastates the American people, I keep thinking of what Presidents Biden and Zelenskyy are experiencing now.
