Also, this time he seems to have actually gotten more votes than his opponent which wasn't the case last time, so it feels more like he was the genuine choice of the American people.
Some of us aren't all that big on protecting them from the consequences.

Yes. What has demoralized me as much as Trump's win was my misjudgment of the integrity and honesty of voters.
