the 'evil' corporation in a denial of claim/benefits spat, which, perhaps makes to some, making some sort of twisted sense/logic.

The insurance industry and other similar industries do make more money by deny, deny, deny. The more they deny, the more money they make (we all know this).

I suspect that the police will look into the history of those making complains or noise regarding their claims being denied via claims made to the company. As much interest that there seems to be on this shooting, we'll no doubt hear more about this case.
