15. Stupid people are the problem

The GOP has embraced the classic WC Fields saying: never give a sucker an even break, or smarten up a chump.

The rich have used lies and fear to convince the stupid to vote against their self-interest. The rich own the mass media and have lobbyists to make sure the tax laws let them get everything they want. The poor and middle class have ... no lobbyists, no massive campaign contributions, no influence at all on the people making the laws and controlling our economy.

People complain about Bezos while doing all their shopping at Amazon. People rail about Musk and yet we have X/Twitter embedded at DU and innumerable government publications. People despise Zuckerberg but won't give up their friends list on Facebook. We're all idiots being taken for a ride. I feel like we're gleefully taking candy from Hitler while making the smallest of polite noises about how ugly some of his policies sound.

Extreme income disparity is a symptom and a telltale warning of serious instability in our future.

I joke about investing in Guillotine futures, but seriously, the only constant is change. Our democracy is not stable and if history teaches us anything it is that the anger of the mob is hard to control.
