Trump and his followers. I think with him, it goes back to his childhood. He has been trying prove something his entire life and he found that he could overcome his social shortcomings with bullying, cheating, lying, and of course, money.

When he entered politics, he was amazed at how he could do or say anything and not "lose any votes", so over time, he kept pushing the envelope just because he could. He showed all those snooty know-it-alls. He stopped listening to the "experts" and bragged about doing it his way while still enjoying the undying loyalty of his base.

Trump has become a mirror for his followers as they put down all their perceived enemies in his name. They found their messiah.
