9. I understand Trump's desire for Greenland

However, I find the ramping up of rhetoric and timing a bit over the top if that is Trump's objective.

Initially, there was a sort of low-key approach with the 2nd lady taking a visit. Once Signal-gate hit, all of a sudden the visit got far more high profile with JD Vance deciding to go along, even though it was widely reported Greenland was already upset about the 2nd lady's visit. I remember thinking, "Why in the world would JD Vance want to escalate an already tense situation?"

That's when the timing hit me: JD Vance didn't announce he was visiting until after Signal-gate erupted. Trump had to know that taking over Greenland was a pipe dream, so who cares if he has to blow up any slim-to-none chance of that happening? If it helps distract from Signal-gate, it's worth it to him.

I think Trump still wants Greenland, that hasn't changed, I just think he's purposely inflaming the situation as a useful distraction. If Signal-gate hadn't happened, the visit would have remained low-key. Trump would have continued on his quest for Greenland, no doubt, but not in this over-the-top manner.
