48. We did not take Cuba if we did it would probably be a U.S. territory now

We helped Cuba get it's independence from Spain and agreed to not make Cuba a U.S. territory and only occupied until a new Cuban Government was formed. The rest is true. We also invaded Haiti and came within an eyelash of annexing the Dominican Republic.
