I read the Gulag Archipelago when I was 15, a long long time ago. This part was shocking enough at that age that I never forgot it, and lately somehow it's been on my mind a lot, but I didn't remember it exactly. (I never heard that the right wing nuts liked it. Now it's my turn to think about it.) If any of Putin's thugs make it to my house I'll forget all about pacifism and remember this passage.
