There's no game playing on my side of things. I'd much prefer to see a reply where there's a genuine effort to engage in discussion, rather than the evasion I'm seeing here.

There's a huge difference between putting words in someone's mouth and coming to a conclusion based on what's already been said and a refusal to clarify what was meant. This performance from you falls into the latter category.
