23. That's a very good way of describing where we're at - "surreal".

I am usually an optimist and have been my entire life, but at this point in my 77 years I really am losing that optimism. I just don't see many Americans taking this seriously enough. Part of me is just glad that I've lived most of my life in a democracy with all it's good and bad parts, so I keep my sanity by not dwelling on what might happen down the road. I live a very small life, my two children are not even middle aged any longer, so they can carry the torch for me while I keep informed but still enjoy the simple things in life - a good book, a couple of like-minded friends and family, beautiful music, nature, my walks in the park every day, my house and garden. I can't waste any of my remaining years on what might come in the future.
