(3,029 posts)There was no official, publicized, efforts attempts to preserve anything from the East wing; not art, not furniture, not even architectural elements that were many decades old. Which is criminal in of itself.
So officially, millions of dollars of objects, many of them easily pilferable, were destroyed with no evidence that they actually were. I'm as honest as anyone here. However, if I found out that my workspace and everything in it was going to be destroyed and no one was trying to save anything, I'd definitely take a midnight stroll and "save" a few items. In the case of a public building, anything of historical value would be returned when a legitimate executive was back in power.
I have no doubt (but admittedly no proof) that a man that would cheat a veteran charity out of millions wouldn't think twice about stealing some trophy from that doomed wing... Nor would anyone willing to be in his orbit, for that matter.
The only counter-argument I can see is that Trump would be uninterested in anything that couldn't be immediately converted to cash, or artwork that didn't feature himself.
