It’s worked because below the brand horse crap there has been an organization with a vested interest in the enterprise, you know, making money. So, the branding was the cost of doing business. Sort of like a... tariff.

However, Trump’s brand has become so toxic that it’s driving away anyone with the actual sense to be running any establishment and making a profit or even breaking even as a not-for-profit. SEE: The Kennedy Center.
